This deliverable was created for an Enrichment Project through McMaster’s undergraduate  Integrated Science program under the supervision of Dr. Alex Hall. We created this timeline because we were inspired by class discussions about the extreme disparities in health and environmental conditions across Hamilton. We were curious about the historical context behind these disparities and why they still exist today. Through our research, we found that there was a lack of information about the history of Hamilton’s steel industry presented in a way that could be easily understood by a public audience and information presented chronologically was scarce. The content available lacked the combination of both social and scientific views, deemphasizing the interdisciplinary nature of the steel industry’s implications. We wanted to take this opportunity to create a product that would include people’s personal experiences, as well as scientific data to create a bigger picture of the repercussions of Hamilton’s steel industry.
